The length of a DJ’s set is pretty much up to you to fit your wedding day timing. However, it’s usual for Wedding DJs to provide music for around 4-5 hours. Just remember that even the most professional DJ needs a break now and then, and your guests would probably welcome a breather from dancing every 90 minutes or so too!
Your wedding venue may have a curfew time for music or dancing according to their licence. You may need to stop at midnight if your venue is a hotel or in a built-up area, for example, or you may be able to continue to 1 am or beyond.
We don’t know about you, but we wouldn’t be too excited if a DJ who was hired to focus on a couple’s wedding day invited other potential customers to see them perform. Weddings are an elegant, classy, and extremely personal day for the couple and their families. A reputable DJ would never allow a potential client to look in. Instead, you will have to rely on online reviews, word of mouth and vendor recommendations, online videos & photos, and most importantly, old fashioned meetings in person.
Go with your gut. Sit and chat with a DJ you are interested in and learn about their company and philosophy. Make sure they spend a lot of time asking about you and your wedding and not just about themselves. Next, make sure you talk to the ACTUAL DJ who will celebrate with you that day. Many wedding venues have sound limiters installed, electronic devices that monitor sound levels in the room (the local council sets limits to avoid nuisance to neighbours), and then cut the power to the DJs equipment if the DJ is too loud for too long. Always check with your venue well in advance to see if a sound limiter system is in place, as this may affect the type and configuration of equipment that your wedding DJ brings. You and your guests won’t even notice, as the best quality wedding DJ sound systems still sound superb at lower levels, and the neighbours won’t get annoyed and come knocking on your venue door!
All commercial venues will have fire detection systems, including smoke detectors, which DJs’ smoke/fog/haze machines might set off to enhance their laser shows. The Evoke Entertainment Story
To tell such a story, we must wind the clock back to 2007-2008. The lead vocalist of our number one event band, ‘Let’s Groove Tonight’ and CEO Chris Ninni found himself frustrated and disappointed with the quality of the Sydney cover band scene. You see, Chris was a hired hand, the fill-in or feature artist many acts and clients would request for a particular event. This is a great position to be in, except for one fact, every night, Chris found himself working with new musicians in new configurations that simply weren’t meeting his own personal expectations. Don’t get me wrong, these musicians were all fantastic, but as a band, they were weak, disjointed and deeply uninspiring. Driving home from every performance, Chris constantly pondered the notion “there has to be a better way”, and so in 2009, “Let’s Groove Tonight” was born.
Early 2009 Chris was on a mission to band together with the finest like-minded musicians Sydney had to offer. The goal was clear, the crystal, in fact. “Let’s Groove Tonight” was going to go against the grain and deliver a product like no other for the Australian scene. The days of throw together lineups were numbered. This is a new beast, one with a consistent lineup that performs together week in, week out. A band that is truly a band.
