A statue of Buddha is a representation of the enlightened one. It can be found in many religions and cultures around the world, including Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, Sikhism and Taoism. The statues are typically depicted with long ears which signify wisdom; closed eyes which represent enlightenment; heavy eyelids which denote sleep or meditation; thin lips that show tranquility; and an expressionless face that symbolizes peace.
Statues may also be shown sitting cross-legged with their hands on their lap (in what’s called “meditation posture”), holding a begging bowl (symbolizing renunciation), or standing with arms crossed over their chest (which represents protection).
To help you get started on your buddha statue hunt, we’ve rounded up our favourite online shops to buy buddha statues from right across Melbourne.

Buddha Statue FAQs
Buddhism Beliefs
Some key Buddhism beliefs include:
- Followers of Buddhism don’t acknowledge a supreme god or deity. They instead focus on achieving enlightenment—a state of inner peace and wisdom. When followers reach this spiritual echelon, they’re said to have experienced nirvana.
- The religion’s founder, Buddha, is considered an extraordinary being but not a god. The word Buddha means “enlightened.”
- The path to enlightenment is attained by utilizing morality, meditation and wisdom. Buddhists often meditate because they believe it helps awaken the truth.
- There are many philosophies and interpretations within Buddhism, making it a tolerant and evolving religion.
- Some scholars don’t recognize Buddhism as an organized religion but rather a “way of life” or a “spiritual tradition.”
- Buddhism encourages its people to avoid self-indulgence but also self-denial.
- Buddha’s most important teachings, known as The Four Noble Truths, are essential to understanding religion.
- Buddhists embrace the concepts of karma (the law of cause and effect) and reincarnation (the continuous cycle of rebirth).
- Followers of Buddhism can worship in temples or their own homes.
- Buddhist monks, or bhikkhus, follow a strict code of conduct, which includes celibacy.
- There is no single Buddhist symbol, but several images have evolved that represent Buddhist beliefs, including the lotus flower, the eight-spoked dharma wheel, the Bodhi tree and the swastika (an ancient symbol whose name means “well-being” or “good fortune” in Sanskrit).
The practice of Buddhism puts the individual in the role of “scientist,” running experiments on their mind to see what works for them. The idea is that through this process (known as mental training), a person can achieve inner peace. And according to Buddhist doctrine, happiness comes from inner peace.
Finding Inner Peace
The main form of mental training is meditation. Studies show that meditating has many mental health benefits, such as reducing stress, anxiety and depression. It accomplishes this over time through teaching people to experience unproductive thoughts from a different perspective. For example, rather than letting a thought nag at someone’s state of mind, meditation teaches them to recognize that it is a thought with no benefit and then release it.
Meditation is accomplished in many ways—deep breathing, yoga, chanting—its goal is to understand and control the mind to achieve enlightenment or nirvana. Nirvana is a mental state of peace and happiness; it is the highest state someone can achieve in Buddhism.
Making Connections
“Basic Buddhist teachings are about practising kindness, humour and compassion towards other people,” Demers said. One of Buddhists’ primary principles is that there should be no agenda other than to help someone.
In Buddhism, all people are equal. “Buddhism gives a person a feeling like being a wave in the ocean rather than feel like one’s life is an isolated phenomenon,” Buddhist expert Jason Henninger explained in an interview with Health Central. “A wave is a wave, but not separate from the rest of the ocean. So Buddhism gives its practitioners a profound feeling of connectedness without loss of identity, and never in terms of superiority or inferiority to others.”
Being in Charge of Our Actions
Karma is an often-misunderstood Buddhist ideal. While most people see it as “what goes around comes around,” karma in Buddhism encompasses the idea that a person can change any circumstances they face in life. It is meant to be a doctrine of responsibility and empowerment. For a Buddhist, hope is a decision.

Apart from having religious significance, Buddha head idols also act as great objects for decoration and beautify the surroundings.
You can place it at your home or workplace.
Even if you are not a follower of Buddhism, you should still consider having a Buddha idol in your home. After all, Buddha idols do not possess just religious significance. They radiate an aura of peace and calmness and also make a great decorative item.

Buddha Figurines from Karma Living
Illuminate your home with Karma Living's range of home decor statues. From Buddha statues and Monk sculptures to elephants and angels, your décor look will be complete with an effigy from Karma Living. In Feng Shui, placing a figurine in your home can attract positive chi; the best positions in your home are when facing the front door, in your meditation space or in your garden.
Although a Sydney or Perth home or garden featuring Buddha figurines is seen as an interior design trend in some circles, it shouldn't be forgotten that a Buddha statue is sacred to Buddhists. Placing the effigy on a pedestal or table is recommended, as placing them on the floor can be seen as disrespectful. This said, providing your décor is in keeping with the basic tenets of Buddhism, there's absolutely no reason why you can't adorn your living or working space with as many ornaments as you desire. From purely an aesthetic perspective, our online statues will compliment any home's appearance, particularly if the existing décor is Asia-centric.
Statues as Gifts for Friends and Loved Ones
If a family member or close friend is religious or even possesses a passing interest in the teaching and philosophies of Buddhism, an ornament of any description makes the ideal gift.
Gold statues are also very prominent in many Buddhist countries featuring in temples and homes from Thailand to Sri Lanka to Nepal, so if you opt for one of these Thai Buddha statues for sale in Australia, you will certainly be in good company with other devotees.
Regardless of where you are based in Australia, our online Sydney Buddhist shop can dispatch your selected figurine quickly and efficiently.
Why Choose Karma Living?
The buying team at Karma Living spend a great deal of time and effort scouring the market in order to offer amazing products for sale to customers in Sydney, Perth and throughout Australia. Our ongoing commitment to providing high-quality products at affordable prices has further cemented our position as Australia's favourite online Buddhist shop.
